I'm going to college soon and I need a new cell phone. My dad is really cheap and he's convinced that I should get a Metro PCS phone. However, I keep hearing how bad their service is. They just added coverage in the East Lansing area and I don't want to be stuck with a phone that isn't going to work well. I know their coverage map says E. Lansing has good reception, but I'm unsure if that's a good source to get info from. Does anyone know for sure if their phones get good reception in the East Lansing area?
Your best bet would be to contact MetroPCS and find out to what extent their extended coverage covers your area in question. Since they've signed roaming deals with their bigger rivals, they no longer have the egregious coverage holes they used to. This should give you some idea if Metro is worth going with in East Lansing.
Hey, I am actually in Lansing. I have never taken my MetroPCS phone to East Lansing, but their coverage in and around here seems to be pretty good, actually. Once you leave the area, you will be roaming on, I believe Verizon, where texting is free, and voice is 19 cents a minute. You might as well give it a try.
