| Very good news is coming. For those who listened to the Motorola earnings webcast, on more than one occasion the CEO and COO hinted at a new product being shown at the analysts meeting next week. An analyst even tried hinting at a product he was aware of and the Moto guys were quick to shut him up and said "Wait for the official annoucement from Tom next week". Tom is the head (although he is on his way out) of the cellphone division. I strongly suggest you tune in to the webcast on Tuesday. They already announced shipping products today, and good things always happen in three.

Thanks for the info. Do you know the time and a link to the webcast?

I did a Google search and I came up with the following. First, here's a link to the analysts meeting that bonoriffic was referring to. http://www.motorola.com/content/0,,2622,00.html And here's the page where you can get the webcasts. I think they'll post it after the meeting is complete. http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....9&p=irol-index |

It should be interesting, especially since Moto's been a little thin when it comes to new product announcements lately. EDIT: Hmmmm....

I don't know what model that is in the FCC listing, but it doesn't look like Moto's typical design, does it? (Also, as a side note, if they're going to file a confidentiality request, you'd think they'd specify the SAR report should be included, since it's got pictures in it...)

Nice play on words Critic. I guess no one noticed my use of bold in the first post. Anyway, somebody dropped the ball on the confidentiality part and the name is clearly visible in one of the docs as well as a few hard to see photos. Moto's secret new phone, which isn't so secret anymore, is called the V3. I'm suprised nobody has picked up on this yet, or found the documents too boring to get to the good stuff. It is for GSM. It is similar in functionality to a V710. So why the big secret? Well right on the page requesting confidentiality they spell it out. "This equipment is significantly “thinner” than other marketed Cellular/PCS transceivers. Due to the technology involved in the unique form factor of this product, Motorola additionally requests 45 day confidentiality on exhibits containing equipment photographs or illustrations." So it is very thin and very different looking. By Tuesday we will know more. |

No. This will be something new. The StarTAC is 10 years old. It is time to move on. Motorola certainly seems to have. http://motofuture.motorola.com |

Motofuture? Is this the new DigitalDNA? (ie: much-hyped campaign that doesn't make sense to anyone outside of Motorola...)

The phone will be announced at the media event, which is actually on Monday night, 7 - 8pm Central. I'd imagine it would be at the end. http://www.motorola.com/content/0,,2642,00.html The Tuesday webcast is a different event, but will certainly mention it at some point too. Still suprised at how little interest this has generated. Maybe people need a high resolution picture to get it. Bluetooth, huge screen, and thinner than any other cell phone. A lot thinner. With all the complaints about how bulky the V710 and V600 are you would think this would generate interest. |

I hate that the FCC allows to keep certain documents confidential. Before you used to be able to look at the "external photos" document so you could see what the phone would look like.

They stopped letting you see the "external photos"? I was wondering why I didn't see the buttons for them. Damn... the FCC is ruining this country from free speech on Howard Stern to just previewing cellphones.

For those with poor eyesight, take a T720 because most of us know what that looks like. Open it up. Extend the screen the entire length of the flip, so just a tiny sliver is left for the earhole and the rest is all screen. Now snap off the bulkier keypad portion of the flip. Now take the remaining screen portion of the flip and imagine that was a flip phone. Giant screen. Bluetooth. So thin you could put it in your pocket and forget it was there. On paper it sure looks promising. You can't see the exterior yet so maybe it is super ugly, but I doubt it.

By the way, the A860 is the A840 but for China and will be shipping shortly. It will be months before Verizon gets it. Same phone, except in Chinese and no Get It Now. Remember that the next time you hear about a "delay" in a phone meant for Verizon. Quote:

https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf I totally missed that when I scanned the SAR report the first ime because of the graphs over them. Once I saw those graphs, I skipped those pages. Ever since I saw the SAR Report for the V710 with pics of the phone with the Verizon logo, I always check them for more pics of the phone.

Is this phone everything the v710 is or just bluetooth in common? I'm willing to give GSM a try if this phone is as revolutionary is it seems to be....1/2 the size of v710....WOW!

I would guess that it at least does not have the camera. With current technology I don't see Motorola putting a 1.2 MP+ camera into a phone that small. That's just my 2 cents though. I could easily be wrong. |

I wonder if this phone uses the Mitsubishi double sided (reversible) LCD screen in order to make it so much thinner than other cell phones. I remember reading about this a few months back. Here is an article on that technology. http://www.computerworld.com/hardwar...,90276,00.html In that Computeworld article, it says "The display, which the company says is a first, was developed initially for use in clamshell-type cellular telephone handsets and could help make such telephones thinner and lighter. Many clamshell-style handsets have two displays, a large main display that faces inward and a smaller subdisplay that faces outward and is used to show basic information when the phone is closed and the main display is out of view. " |

Quote from AnalogTiger's previous post: " The beginning of sales is expected to be in September, the price will be between 650 and 750 USD." Any idea if that is with or without a plan? It makes the v710 look like an econo-phone. |

Sweet Zombie Jesus! That is a NICE looking phone. Reminds me of a old-school Star Trek communicator. I noticed that the keypad is flat - essentially a touch screen. I wonder if they used the same tech Apple used on the touch sensitive buttons on the 3G iPod... |

Wow, I am really impressed by that phone. Unfortunately I can not get one, I will be entering ito a two year contract with Verizon as soon as I can. However if that phone is any indication of the direction Motorola and the entire Wireless industry is heading then I believe we have some very exciting times ahead of us. |

damn...now I'm second-guessing myself wondering if I should goto GSM for that phone instead of the v710...some help please... But damn a price tag of between $500 and $750...that's way too much for a cell-phone. |
