I would guess that it at least does not have the camera. With current technology I don't see Motorola putting a 1.2 MP+ camera into a phone that small.
That's just my 2 cents though. I could easily be wrong. |

I wonder if this phone uses the Mitsubishi double sided (reversible) LCD screen in order to make it so much thinner than other cell phones. I remember reading about this a few months back. Here is an article on that technology.
http://www.computerworld.com/hardwar...,90276,00.html In that Computeworld article, it says "The display, which the company says is a first, was developed initially for use in clamshell-type cellular telephone handsets and could help make such telephones thinner and lighter. Many clamshell-style handsets have two displays, a large main display that faces inward and a smaller subdisplay that faces outward and is used to show basic information when the phone is closed and the main display is out of view. " |

Quote from AnalogTiger's previous post:
" The beginning of sales is expected to be in September, the price will be between 650 and 750 USD." Any idea if that is with or without a plan? It makes the v710 look like an econo-phone. |

Sweet Zombie Jesus! That is a NICE looking phone. Reminds me of a old-school Star Trek communicator.
I noticed that the keypad is flat - essentially a touch screen. I wonder if they used the same tech Apple used on the touch sensitive buttons on the 3G iPod...

Wow, I am really impressed by that phone. Unfortunately I can not get one, I will be entering ito a two year contract with Verizon
as soon as I can. However if that phone is any indication of the direction Motorola and the entire Wireless industry is heading then I believe we have some very exciting times ahead of us. |

damn...now I'm second-guessing myself wondering if I should goto GSM for that phone instead of the v710...some help please...
But damn a price tag of between $500 and $750...that's way too much for a cell-phone. |

That V3 is pretty nice. One of the nicest I've seen from Moto in a long time.

Oh my, that V3 is an awesome looking phone. Finally something to give up my Nokia 8910 for. Anyone have any more pics or info on the phone as the mobile review page has been pulled.

Buy a Chicago Tribune or Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. There should be a full page ad for the V3 Razor.

Looking at this phone, and indeed most new Motorolas, which all appear to be GSM, does anyone know why Verizon based their network on CDMA. I mean, it seems to me that most everywhere else in the world, GSM is the network choice. It consumes less energy, it is apparently cheaper and the overlay in Europe appears nearly all-encompassing. Even VZW can't touch GSM Europe. For me Verizon Wireless offers the best coverage, all others pale in comparison, IMO. And in the US, I think most people would be hard pressed to refute that. As such, I would never trade reliabilty for a nice phone. But why they choose CDMA, when the rest of the world (for the most part, I know other parts of the world use CDMA besides North America) is a question I've been thinking about lately. Any thoughts?

In a different thread, I posted a mini-time capsule of wireless in the US, so you might want to reference that, if you can find it. In a nutshell: in the mid-90's, when digital became the clear next-step from AMPS, there were several competing technologies - CDMA, TDMA, and GSM. It was pretty much a crapshoot for the providers, so most likely they went with whichever technology they could get a better price on. VZW
and Sprint went with CDMA, ATTWS and many of the companies who would become Cingular went with TDMA. Only Omnipoint (later Voicestream, later T-Mobile ) went with GSM initially.

/Sprint started building their digitial networks, CDMA was the newest and most advanced digital technology out there and so they went with it. ATTWS /Cingular went with TDMA before CDMA was available and they had already significantly invested in that technology when CDMA came out so it would have been too costly to switch. Since GSM is based on TDMA technology, I think it was easier/cheaper for ATTWS /Cingular to upgrade their network from TDMA to GSM.It wasn't until much later, after all the providers had already invested significantly in whatever digital technology they chose that it became obvious that GSM was becoming the world standard. |
